Brotherly Feud Leaves One Critically Injured, Other on the Run, in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas — A violent dispute between two brothers in Houston’s Hiram Clarke neighborhood on Wednesday left one brother critically injured and the other at large, according to authorities.

Investigators say the conflict began after a long-standing feud between the brothers, partly fueled by their ownership of competing smoke shops. The brothers’ mother, Shirley Jolivet, told KTRK that the violence escalated the day before the shooting, when Kenneth Jolivet allegedly came to her home, tied her up, assaulted her, and held her hostage for hours in an attempt to lure his brother and father.

Leontay Wade, seeking help, ran to a neighbor’s door pleading for assistance and asking someone to call 911, according to ring doorbell video obtained by KTRK. Believing Wade was an intruder, the neighbor shot him as he attempted to seek help elsewhere. Wade was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Kenneth Jolivet fled the scene following the shooting and remains missing. Police are actively searching for him.

Authorities have not charged the neighbor who fired the gun, and investigators say the case will likely go before a grand jury to determine whether the shooting was justified.

Family members described the situation as a tragic escalation of a personal dispute with devastating consequences.
