BARTONVILLE — Authorities have identified a 90-year-old man who died after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon near Bartonville Grade School.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood confirmed the victim as Carlos P. Martinez, Death, Obituary, Elderly Man Identified After Fatal Pedestrian Crash Near Bartonville Grade Schoolof Bartonville. Despite aggressive life-saving efforts and trauma care, Martinez was pronounced dead at 2:27 p.m. at OSF HealthCare St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
According to the coroner, Martinez was conscious and alert immediately following the crash, but his condition rapidly deteriorated. He arrived at the hospital unconscious, not breathing, and without a pulse.
An autopsy determined that Martinez died from multiple blunt force trauma injuries. Toxicology results are pending.
Bartonville Police said the incident occurred in the 300 block of Keller Street. Officials also confirmed that Martinez was not affiliated with Bartonville Grade School.
Keller Street, which had been closed between East McClure and East Garfield avenues, has since reopened. The Illinois State Police accident reconstruction team is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
