CHICAGO — A 67-year-old man was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon near the United Center, Chicago police report.
The incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. in the Near West Side neighborhood, near West Madison and South Leavitt streets. According to police, two armed suspects approached the man on the street, drew handguns, and fired multiple shots.

First responders performed CPR on the victim, who was shot in the head, but he was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. His identity has not yet been released.
The shooting prompted a significant police response, partly due to a call reporting an officer in danger, though no officers were injured. Detectives are investigating the incident, and Madison Street between Leavitt Street and Hoyne Avenue was closed for several hours.
