It is with profound heartbreak that we remember and honor the life of Tijo Jose Thomas, a beloved member of Victoria’s Malayali community, who tragically lost his life in a motor vehicle accident near Bendigo on March 24, 2026.
At just 34 years old, Tijo’s passing is an unimaginable loss. He was a devoted husband to Anju Thomas and a loving, proud father to their one-month-old son. Their journey together had only just begun—filled with dreams, hope, and the promise of a bright future. After recently securing permanent residency, Tijo and Anju were building a new life in Australia, a milestone they had worked tirelessly to achieve. That dream has now been tragically cut short.
Tijo was known for his gentle nature, humility, and ever-present smile. He was truly “down-to-earth,” someone who made everyone feel welcome and valued. In his work within the disability sector, he dedicated himself to caring for others with compassion and sincerity. His clients and colleagues deeply admired him, not just for his professionalism, but for the kindness and dignity he brought to every interaction.
His passing has deeply shaken the community, with organizations such as the Malayalee Association of Victoria Inc. and Melbourne Malayalee Federation Inc. expressing their grief and extending heartfelt condolences. Tijo was more than a community member—he was a friend, a supporter, and a person who uplifted others.
Now, his young family faces an incredibly difficult road ahead. With Anju on maternity leave and their newborn child depending on her, the emotional devastation is compounded by financial uncertainty. Efforts are underway to support them—helping with repatriation to Kerala, travel arrangements, and essential living expenses during this painful time.
Tijo lived a life of service, always giving to others. In his absence, the community now comes together to give back—to support the family he loved so deeply.
To Anju, their son, and all who loved him, we extend our deepest condolences. May you find strength in the love surrounding you and comfort in the legacy Tijo leaves behind.
Rest in eternal peace, Tijo Jose Thomas. You will never be forgotten.
