Deme was more than a valued employee at Wayside Market—she was a light in the lives of everyone she encountered. Known for her radiant smile and vibrant personality, she brought warmth, energy, and genuine care into every space she entered. She wasn’t just someone who did her job well; she made people feel seen, welcomed, and appreciated. She knew customers by name, shared in their stories, and helped create a sense of belonging that made the market feel like home.
Her kindness extended far beyond the workplace. Deme was deeply rooted in her faith and her love for others. She would pray with coworkers during difficult moments, uplift those who were struggling, and always offer encouragement when it was needed most. She gave freely of herself—her time, her compassion, and her spirit.
Above all, Deme was a devoted mother. As a single parent, she worked tirelessly to provide for and nurture her children, balancing work with homeschooling her 12-year-old son and supporting her older children as they pursued their own paths. Her love for them was unwavering, and her pride in their accomplishments was evident to all who knew her. She was especially excited to support her son Alexander at his national wrestling tournament—an event she had been looking forward to with immense joy.
The tragedy of her loss is compounded by the reality her children now face—navigating life without the steady presence, love, and guidance of their mother. It is a burden no family should have to bear alone.
