A tragic shooting in Jacksonville, Florida has claimed the life of A’mahri Robinson, a 2-year-old boy remembered by family as joyful and full of life.

Authorities say the incident occurred overnight during a dispute between two adults at an apartment on Labelle Street. Investigators with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office allege that Steven Dodson Jr., 21, fired a gun during the altercation, striking the child in the head.

A’marhri was rushed to Wolfson Children’s Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

During his first court appearance, a judge denied bond on the murder charge and set bond at more than $1 million for the remaining charges. He was also ordered not to have contact with minors or witnesses.

Court records show Dodson had been released from prison just four months prior to the shooting.

Family members described A’marhri as a happy child who brought joy to those around him. They are now preparing for his funeral while grappling with the devastating loss.

The suspect’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 15.
