Accident ; Two Injured, Dog Dies in House Fire in Decatur

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Two people were injured and a dog died following a house fire in Decatur on Tuesday night.

The Decatur Fire Department responded to a residence near the intersection of East Decatur Street and South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive just before 9 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found the two-story home engulfed in flames.

According to officials, the two occupants were able to escape by jumping from second-floor windows before emergency crews arrived. Both individuals were transported to a hospital, though their conditions have not yet been disclosed.

Tragically, a dog was found deceased inside the home.

The fire was brought under control shortly after 9:30 p.m., according to reports from the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Decatur Fire Department.
