CRETE, Ill. (WLS) — A tragic house fire Tuesday night claimed the lives of three students from the Crete-Monee School District 201-U.
The district confirmed in a social media post that two students attended Monee Elementary and one was a Crete-Monee High School student. Details about the location of the fire and whether there were any additional casualties have not been released.
“This is a devastating time for our school community,” the district said. “Out of respect for the family’s privacy and because circumstances are still being confirmed, we cannot share additional details at this time. We are all grieving together, and we will do everything we can to support our students, staff, and families in the days ahead.”
The district said it is increasing support services across its schools to help students and staff cope with the tragedy.
