CHICAGO — Two separate shootings within an hour of each other near the University of Chicago on Wednesday left one man dead and another critically injured, according to police.
The first shooting occurred just after 11:30 a.m. in the 6200 block of South Drexel Avenue. Police say a 29-year-old man was sitting inside a vehicle when two male suspects approached in a white Mercedes. An argument reportedly broke out before one of the suspects pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Approximately an hour later, a second shooting was reported in the 5300 block of South Kenwood Avenue. Police say a 30-year-old man was walking in an alley when he was approached by a male suspect in a Toyota Corolla. The suspect allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim in the chest and twice in the wrist.
The second victim was also taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and remains in critical condition.
Police have not confirmed whether the two incidents are connected, and no arrests have been made. The investigation remains ongoing.
