The East El Paso community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 15-year-old Sophia Elize Ramirez, who passed away as a result of a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near mile marker 30 on March 17, 2026.
According to the El Paso Police Department, the crash occurred around 11:01 p.m. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2022 Ford Mustang, traveling east on I-10, rear-ended a 2017 Ford Escape at a high rate of speed. The impact caused Sophia, a back-seat passenger in the Escape, to be ejected from the vehicle, resulting in critical injuries. She was later pronounced deceased on March 19, 2026, following notification from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Mustang was driven by 22-year-old Andrea Fernanda Soria of East El Paso, with 21-year-old Alizae Justine Hernandez as the front passenger and 21-year-old Savanna Castro riding in the back. The Escape was driven by 33-year-old Joshua Ruben Rubio of East El Paso, with 36-year-old Desiree Ramirez as the front passenger. Also in the back seat of the Escape were a 1-year-old boy, 15-year-old Sophia Elize Ramirez (deceased), and an infant girl.
The El Paso Police Special Traffic Investigations Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic crash.
We extend deepest condolences to the Ramirez family, friends, and all who were affected by this devastating loss. Sophia’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
